|The Ramakrishna Mission|
The Ramakrishna Mission was founded by Swami Vivekananda in 1897. As a philanthropic organisation, it administers hospitals, dispensaries, schools, colleges, orphanages, schools for the blind and religious and cultural centres in all the Indian States. Its activities have earned the Mission praises from the government and the Indian people, in particular on the occasion of its assistance work carried out during periods of famine, floods, drought, epidemics and other disasters.
When it is established outside the frontiers of India, the Mission devotes itself to the teaching of Vedanta with the ultimate intention of the harmony of religions, harmony between the East and the West, harmony between tradition and modernity, peace among all mankind, all this through the development of all the human faculties and spiritual accomplishment, without discrimination as to beliefs or nationalities.
