Vedanta in the West

Following Swami Vivekananda’s travels, several Vedanta centres came into being, but only those in the United States survived.

Outside India and the United States it was in France that the first Vedanta Centre saw the day in 1937. Swamis connected with the history of the Centre in Gretz-Armainvilliers established a Centre in Geneva and in South Africa (at that time Rhodesia), while another came into existence in London.

Since the 1980s Vedanta Centres have also appeared in Holland, Russia and Germany.
